Clarie KellyClaire Kelly,
a Purdue
graduate,
was a middle and high school English teacher before joining Image Makers. In her spare time, she enjoys traveling, movies, reading and spending time with her daughter, son-in-law and new granddaughter, Shealyn Claire. She and her husband, Mike, live in Delafield.

As a senior copywriter, Claire writes, edits and proofreads advertising materials for clients. She also collaborates with graphic designers and the art director to create client websites that are SEO friendly.

What does an IMA copywriter do?
Write. Adapt. Edit. Meet deadlines. I write advertising copy for ads, brochures, newsletters, direct mail, catalogs, trade show displays, packaging, sales letters. I write on-line copy, public relations copy, copy for radio and TV commercials, and I've edited what others have written.

What are some of the most interesting things you've worked on?
I've always loved researching Kings Way model homes and writing the brochures—so much so that we built a Kings Way home nine years ago! One of my favorite things is coming up with taglines and Waukesha County Fair themes. My best efforts: Barn to Be Wild and Run 'Till the Cows Come Home for the Fair. And Lawyers with a Reputation for Winning (now Trial Attorneys with a Reputation for Winning) for Cannon & Dunphy, years ago.

What do you like best about your job?
I read this once and it's true: "Copywriters are the writing equivalent of chameleons." I enjoy moving from project to project, client to client, format to format, audience to audience. It keeps things interesting.

What's the biggest misconception about copywriting?
It has nothing to do with copyrights! And no, I'm not working on the Great American Novel or a screenplay in my spare time. I'm not even that good at Scrabble.

What's interesting about writing for the Internet?
It's definitely different than the way one writes for print. In this case, readers aren't looking for pretty, lyrical writing. People actually read very little on a web page. Within three seconds, they make a decision to stop or keep reading. So, I write copy that's strategically placed on the page to attract the eye. To make sure the marketing message is processed immediately, I use short sentences and a lot of bullets—product features, lists of services, links, etc.

What's your favorite copywriter joke?
Q: How many copywriters does it take to change a light bulb? A: What do you mean change?! We think it works!

Governor Issues Proclamation
for IMA Client
ProclamationImage Makers recently petitioned Governor Scott Walker and his office on behalf of Expo Productions and the Wisconsin Manufacturing & Technology Show to have October 1-8, 2011 recognized as Manufacturing and Metalworking Week throughout the state of Wisconsin. Governor Walker issued an official proclamation recognizing the significant contribution of manufacturing and metalworking industries in the state—in economic wellbeing as well as employment opportunities. The proclamation helped to raise public awareness and interest in the Wisconsin Manufacturing and Technology Show, which was held October 4-6 at State Fair Park. The show is one of the premier metalworking and machine tools expos in the Midwest, and serves as a forum to help shape the future of the industry. Hundreds of companies, exhibitors, sponsors and organizations participate in the biennial show.

RU Cued in on QR Codes?
Quick Response CodeIf you're not familiar with QR (quick response) codes, ask us for details! Basically, a QR code is a two-dimensional encoded barcode that stores a variety of data and can be scanned by anyone with a smartphone. We can easily create these for you so your customers can respond to your advertising anywhere at any time! Once we've created a QR code for you, it can be printed on nearly any surface or location, depending on what you want it to do.

For example, you might add one to your business card or newspaper ad to immediately drive perspective customers to your website or Facebook page. Put one in the window of your store to send coupons to prospects' cellphones which can be brought inside for immediate discounts. Add one to your business vehicle so passersby can scan it to get contact information and directions.

Not only can we generate, customize and help with the application of your QR codes, we can also show you how to develop value-added, engaging campaigns around their use. Ask us for details!
